Heather Page
Bitesize Bookbinding
Coptic binding is one of the oldest methods of bookbinding, originating in the 2nd century. Traditionally covered in leather, most modern interpretations leave the spine exposed to allow flexibility.
Long stitch binding is a traditional non-adhesive method, creating a binding that is both flexible and attractive. The spine stitching can be further elaborated with knotwork or beading for a highly decorative finish.
This workshop will focus on one of these methods.
Heather Page has been working as a bookbinder for the past 10 years working on new editions of books and the restoration of older ones. She continues producing and repairing beautiful books in her new bindery in West Cumbria.
