James Fox

Lost Arts and Vanishing Trades

Historian and broadcaster James Fox meets some of the last remaining master craftspeople at work in Britain today.

He steps inside the workshops of blacksmiths, wheelwrights, cutlers and coopers, bell-founders and watchmakers, revealing not only our past but another way of life that is in danger of vanishing altogether. He celebrates the enduring value of craft and the deep connection between our creative instincts and the material world. He explores how crafts connect us to the land and are the expression of regional identities and cultures.

James Fox is Director of Studies in History of Art at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
