David Crystal

Disappearing dialects - or not?

In a recent book, The Disappearing Dictionary, Honorary Professor of Linguistics at Bangor University, David Crystal tells the remarkable story behind the first English Dialect Dictionary, compiled by Joseph Wright over a century ago. In this talk he describes local Cumbrian words found within, and asks the question: ‘Are they still being used?’ David hopes the audience will provide some answers.
