David Crackanthorpe

Fair Seed-Time

William Crackanthorpe, His Irish & Grand Tours in Napoleonic Wartime, 1812- 1815

A bundle of letters and diaries in a discarded trunk in the stables at Newbiggin Hall contained an account of the 22 year old William Crackanthorpe’s travels through an impoverished Ireland and a war-torn Europe. He visited all the great cities and met the exiled Napoleon on Elba. His descendant, David recounts this epic tour.
